Continuous Arm Rocking Chair
Continuous Arm Rocking Chair
"Americans have a taste for…rocking-chairs. A flippant critic might suggest that they select rocking-chairs so that, even when they are sitting down, they need not be sitting still." ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton
For over two-hundred years this American design has brought comfort to many. Using time-tested techniques and known factors of the human body, they continue to be one of the most comfortable chairs ever drawn from a tree. Brought to life by hand, these Windsor chairs use construction techniques similar to a suspension bridge. Using tension, the properties of the material, and tight joinery the chairs have a high strength to weight ratio, which insures that they will never lose a stretcher or snap a spindle unless put through extremes not normally found in a home environment. Like any King Solomon piece they are built to be an heirloom product that is meant to last for generations to come.
Finish
Windsor Chairs are finished with milk paint and then several layers of shellac. Please see our post about this technique.
